Donald Reid’s grandmother devised Reid’s original oatcake with a unique toasted flavour and her recipe is now over 100 years old. Working in the bakery in Caithness, Graeme Reid, developed the honey and oat biscuits in this packet from his great grandmother's original recipe especially for Mey Selections.
Traditionally, oatcakes in the North Highlands were part of the staple diet and made by every family. They were baked on a girdle over an open fire turned and toasted on both sides before serving with cottage cheese or Scottish crowdie, a local delicacy. Originally, the oats baked in the Reid’s bakery were grown on local farms and milled at the old John O’Groats watermill.
Mey Selections honey and oat biscuits use only heather honey from beehives in the North Highlands to produce a sweeter wholesome biscuit. We hope that you will enjoy this product and benefit from its natural goodness.
INGREDIENTS: Wheatflour, Non-hydrogenated margarine, Oats(21.3%), Cane Sugar, Honey, (3.6%), Raising agents(sodium bicarbonate, baking powder).
